I’m all set up with legit copy of the 10.8 install app (borrowed from a friend who did the update and is now on 10.10) and MLPF for a test of installing 10.8, even though Mac Pro 1.1 is unsupported. I’ll click, go to class, and see if I come back to a kernel panic. If so, I still have my 10.7 USB install key ready to go, and I’ll start over.
