From 1997-2000 or so ABC ran a block of cartoons and intertsitials called “One Saturday Morning.” Among the segments included was the wildly popular “Mrs. Munger’s Class.” Styled to look like an old 1970’s yearbook in which the photographs come to life and begin speaking to each other, the “show” only ran two seasons, but had a much greater impact than any other 90-second segment.
This disc collects both seasons of “Munger” as well as the follow-up project, “Centerville” and various other bonus materials. Most startling is the 22 minute pilot for ABC, which was developed and seen internally, but nowhere outside the studio. Fans of the “show” will be particularly interested to see how these characters would have made the transition to a series!
Innovative in its time (the “Angela Anaconda” show deliberately borrowed from Munger!) and immensely popular, the segment died an ignoble death when whiny-pants people sued and Disney completely folded and paid them off. As a result there will never be any reissuing of this material by Disney, ABC, or any of their related companies. But who cares about that old news? Watch the material once again and see why millions tuned in every week for a 90-second segment!
